Questions

How is the hourly rate worked out?

Income plus expenses, grossed up for the tax you set aside, divided by the hours you can actually bill in a year (billable hours per week times working weeks).

How many billable hours should I plan for?

Fewer than you work. Admin, sales, email and unpaid revisions take a real share of the week, so plan billable hours honestly and adjust after a month of tracking.

Should I charge hourly or by project?

Hourly is simplest for open-ended work. For defined deliverables, use the hourly rate to estimate the hours, then quote a project price.
